Michael Jackson’s Doctor Charged With Manslaughter; Released After Posting $75K Bail
Michael Jackson’s personal physician pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter Monday, setting the stage for a sensational celebrity courtroom drama as prosecutors attempt to prove Dr. Conrad Murray caused the pop star’s death.

Some two hours after prosecutors filed the single felony count, the six-foot-five Murray arrived in court in a grey suit to enter his plea. As he did, several members of Jackson’s family looked on.

Superior Court Judge Keith L. Schwartz set bail at $75,000, three times more than most people charged with involuntary manslaughter face. Prosecutors had been seeking $300,000 bail for Murray, who was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies but not handcuffed.

The doctor showed up to surrender and face involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Michael Jackson. In related news, TMZ obtained a copy of Jackson’s full L.A. County Coroner’s report which says the manner of death is homicide and this conclusion is based on the following 4 items: 1. Circumstances indicate the Propofol and the benzodiazepines were administered by another. 2. Propofol was administered in a non-hospital setting without any appropriate medical indication. 3. The standard of care for administering Propofol was not met. Recommended equipment for patient monitoring, precision dosing and resuscitation was not present. 4. The circumstances do not support self-administration of Propofol.

Charlie Sheen Racks Up Three Charges
Arriving for his court appearance in Aspen, CO, Charlie Sheen was spotted heading into the courthouse on Monday (February 8). The “Spin City” actor is there in correlation of his Christmas Day arrest after allegedly holding a knife to wife Brooke Mueller’s throat. Three criminal charges were filed against Charlie Sheen including felony menacing misdemeanors, 3rd degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief. According to TMZ, Sheen did not enter a plea. The judge also relaxed the protective order so Sheen can communicate with Mueller, but is not allowed to drink alcohol, harass Brooke or possess firearms.

It’s been an absolute media frenzy outside of Airport Court in Los Angeles today (February 8) and it was just announced that Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. According to the criminal complaint, the D.A. alleges Dr. Murray “did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson ... in the commission of an unlawful act, not a felony; and in the commission of a lawful act which might have produced death, in an unlawful manner, and without due caution and circumspection.” Dr. Murray administered Propofol to Jackson just before he died, and the L.A. County Coroner’s Office has determined Jackson died as a result of acute Propofol intoxication. If convicted, Dr. Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison.

Dr. Conrad Murray: “I’m Not Guilty”
He’s facing an arraignment later today, and Dr. Conrad Murray will reportedly enter a “not guilty” plea with regard to his involuntary manslaughter charges. The former physician of the late Michael Jackson says he’s not at fault for the tragic death of the King of Pop back in June of 2009, and he’ll mount a legal defense to that effect. The LA County Sheriff’s Department is sending 20 deputies to the courthouse to help control the crowd they’re anticipating, especially since some overzealous fans may try to attack Murray for his involvement in Jackson’s death. Following his arraignment, Murray is expected to post $25,000 bond as he waits for his hearing and subsequent trial.

Former NFL star Warren Sapp has been released from jail on $1,500 bond after being arrested in Miami Beach on charges he choked a woman in his hotel room.

Sapp was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery in the incident early Saturday after a night of partying. He was released at about 11 a.m. Sunday — a time he would have been assisting in the NFL Network’s pre-Super Bowl coverage.
